500Gallons
Filter: Multi-bay & Bead
UV: 25W
This pond belongs to a very experienced Koi Keeper. The main pond now has only 20 Koi in with some very nice Koi from UKNishikigoi being added slowly. The growth is superb on all the Koi.
The best part of the pond is the Cetus Sieve, the owner thinks this is the best bit of pond kit available today, he works away in Scotland through the week and sometimes longer and has gone 3 weeks without cleaning any part of the filters, the sieve just takes everything out.
Gallons: 21000
Filters: 2 Cetus sieves and 2 Nexus 300. Planned Koi Shower.
Bottom drains: 2 diffuser drains.
Pumps: 2 Sequence 18000 running the Cetus units. 2 sequence 15000 running the Nexus units.
UV: 2 x TMC 110w UV’s
Airpumps: 1 Airtech 150 running both Nexus units. 2 50L airpumps.
2 x Skimmers run from 16000L pumps and recirculated back to the pond.
Food fed: Sakai Hikari/Hikari wheatgerm
This was a retro fit project and impossible to do exactly what we wanted to like add more bottom drains to the base. When it was originally built that’s all was put in. We ran both the bottom drains directly into Cetus sieves and recirculated the returns back into the pond. This will give us a great flow rate which the pond never had in the past. We then drilled 2 x 4″ holes in the side of the pond and took each 4″ pipe straight into a Nexus 300, this will give the pond bacterial filtration where as the sieves will handle the mechanical side of the system. The pond has a massive slope into the drains so the returns now help push everything to the deeper end where the drains are.
We installed all the new filters and all the new pumps and pipework. The system now pretty much looks after itself. We will be adding more filtration to the pond, probably a Koi Shower in the spring.
Now the system is easy to work and the fish are starting to thrive in their new environment. The owner only likes the big fish and this kind of pond would only look good with the larger fish in it. A lot will be moved on next year and the owner will continue to add to his high quality collection.
“Within 5 days of new filters being fitted the water sparkled for the first time ever. The water is clearer than any pond I have ever seen. I had no idea how simple my filter system is to clean and operate. Its nothing compared to what I had to go through to clean it, Its fantastic!”

“I am on my 3rd pond in 3 years and hopefully it will last me at least a few years before the need to expand wins out. Since finding Uknishikigoi I hope to increase and improve my collection dramatically. I have been slowly improving my knowledge of water quality and koi breeds but the more I learn the more I realise there is still so much more to go.
My wife helps during the week by spending 20mins or so flushing and cleaning the filters every other day. I believe the filter cleaning is down to the nexus easy clean abilities. My water parameters are excellent and have had no issues with diseases etc. I have found that although some very experienced koi people speak bad of them I have found the nexus300 and Eazypod very good and it has helped get my wife involved as they are so easy to clean.”
Steve S - Leigh
Pond: 5500gallons.
Drains: 1 bottom drain
Filter: Nexus 300
Finish: Fibreglass
UV: TMC 55w
Pumps: Sequence 15000 for the Nexus and a sequence 8000 running the skimmer.
Airpump: Airtech 95 running the nexus
Food fed: Saki Hikari and Hikari wheatgerm mix
This is one of the most efficient builds I have ever seen.
Steve has kept Koi for many years and has only just moved house. He wanted the best equipment for his new pond so of course he went with a Nexus 300. Steve ordered all the equipment from UKNishikigoi and they were delivered to site the day after he received the keys for the property.
The pond was build in 2 weeks flat. Start to finish. We left it a week before adding fish but it was an amazing build for speed. Everything was already in place from the equipment to the builders.
Steve has been buying some really nice Koi and will soon thin out a few from his old collection, A cracking pond!
Roy Pillay – Durban, South Africa
Gallons: 17600
Drains: 3 diffuser drains
Filters: Vortex system with K1 media and Evolution Aqua Answers
Water Pumps: Sequence
3 x 55w TMC Uv’s
Airpumps: 4 x Hi Blow 80’s. 2 x Hi Blow 100’s
Food used: Sakai Hikari
Roy is one of the most successful Koi Keepers in the world. Winning the South African National show on many occasions and also his local Koi show in Durban many times. The hobby for Roy is all about keeping high class fish. Roy tries to buy 2 and 3 year old Koi and grow them himself in Japan and at home in South Africa. At this moment in time Roy has 5 Koi purchased from UKNishikigoi in Shintaro’s mudponds in Niigata.
With a collection such as Roys the Koi are very well looked after. Keeping Koi in South Africa is alot different to how we keep them in the UK. Roy actually has a cooler instead of a boiler to get the temperature down! Large Koi like Roy’s will show the same effects when the water is to hot that our fish have when really cold. They won’t feed and act sluggish when it’s too hot. This causes Roy and many other Koi keepers in South Africa many problems.
Roy has a major love for Matsunosuke Koi. He understands how these fish grow and turn out now. All his major price winners have come from this bloodline.
Kevin M – Whiston
Gallons: 1100
Filter: Nexus 200
TMC 55w UV
Water pump: Sequence 8000s
Airpump: Airtech 130
Food used: Saki Hikari
Kevin has just upgraded his pond from a pump fed system into a bottom drain system. Which really needed doing. He has gained 300 gallons with some extra height and now runs really well. He has thinned his Koi out over the winter and has started to collect some really nice fish.
The upgrade only took 4 days and Kev did the work alone, it isn’t a major job these days to change current pump fed ponds over to bottom drain/gravity systems.
“I like to drop my nexus easy twice so I can add some more fresh water to the pond. The fish are coming along really good now. Over the moon with them, I have only been keeping Koi for just over 12months!”
Marco N - France
Gallons: 5900
Filter: Nexus 200 on 1 bottom drain. Vortex with static K1 followed by 1 camber of moving K1 and 3 more
chambers of Japanese matting.
Drains: 2 diffuser drains.
Pumps: 2 x sequence 10000s.
110w TMC UV
Airpumps: 3 x 70L pumps.
Food used: Saki Hikari
I have sold Marco Koi for a couple of years now. France has such a better climate and the fish do really well. This is the newest pond only completed for around 12months. The setting is really nice. The style is also really nice. Marco is a Vet by trade and is really into all aspects of the hobby and has introduced me to many new things that I can use on the Koi.
Marco really wants to keep true Tategoi and has already bought some very nice fish. 1 or 2 more Koi a year and the collection will grow into something pretty special.
“I really wanted something that looked nice, without filter or pipes too near to the pond. The filtration system works really well and just takes me half an hour a week to clean the system. The water parameter are perfect and the water clarity gives the impression that the koi are flying in the air. The biggest problem here is the difference of temperature between summer and winter. In summer we are always between the 22 C° and 30 C°, so if the pond is too little the water temperature goes too far up with problems of air and algae.”
Karl M – St Helens
Gallons: 1500
Filter: Nexus 200
3kw Elecro heater
TMC 30w UV.
Water pump: Sequence 8000s
Airpump: Airtech 95
Food used: Saki Hikari
This pond is a beautiful pond. The shape is a perfect circle and suits the garden perfectly.
The Firestone rubber finish is the only part of the pond that Karl didn’t do himself. A credit to him.
Karl has been slowly buying some really nice fish over the last few years, nothing huge but 1 and 2 year old Koi that have grown really well. He changed to Saki Hikari this year and the difference has been massive. With an aim to have 10 really high class Koi, Karl is already on his way.
“The change of food has been pretty unbelievable. The fish are noticeably growing. I have just returned from a weeks holiday and noticed weight gains. I was also impressed with the Nexus 200 and the fact it didn’t even need cleaning when I was away.”
James and Gill – Ashton
Gallons: 4500
Bottom drains: 1 diffuser drain.
Filter: Nexus 300
Pumps: 2 x Sequence 10000’s. 1 for filter return, and the other for the surface skimmer and heating. 1 xAquamax 10000 for waterfall via another surface skimmer.
1 x TMC 110w UV
Airpump: Airtech 120
Food used: Saki Hikari
James and Gill built the pond from scratch and fibreglassed the pool. It really fits the style of the house and garden and has a viewing window connected to their conservatory.
With only 13 Koi at this present time there is plenty of room for more additions. The growth they get in the pond is superb.
“We don’t really have to bother with the pond these days. With us both working full time its great not to have to worry about the pond. It just takes care of itself now. 20minutes a week cleaning the nexus is about it. The odd treatment and thats about it”
Dave B – Runcorn
Gallons: 1650
Filter: Nexus 200
55w Yamitsu UV
Sequence 8000s
Airpump: Airtech 130
Food used: Saki Hikari
This pond is a fantastic smaller end pond. With the filtration system and the TLC that this pond receives the fish will do really well.
Dave started his pond out like many people do and bought fish from Garden Centres. Then the Koi bug bit him pretty hard and he started to buy some really high class Koi. Now with a target of around 10 good 2year old Koi with 4 bought already. Will be really good to see how these fish come on.
“Im happy with the pond now its all running well. Maintenance is so easy. I spend about 20minutes a week cleaning the filter if that. Very easy, The water is always crystal clear and the fish are always hungry.”
Derek R – Liverpool
Gallons: 16000
Filtration: 4 x Ultra sieve 3’s returning through bead filters and a double Baki Shower.
Bottom Drains: 4 diffuser drains
2 x TMC 110w UV’s.
Water pumps: Waterco pumps.
Airpumps: 2 x Airtech 130’s 2 x Hi Blow 100’s
Food used: Hikari Sakai/Hikari Wheatgerm
Derek has chopped and changed this pond many times since it was first built. Trying everything to get the system running as good as he can. Recently adding a Baki shower to the pond, to see if it can make the water any better.
The fish have always been superb in the current system growing like you would not believe. I sold Derek the majority of the fish in the pond and have the measurements from when I first bought them in Japan. Derek bought a Chagoi at 88cms from myself which is now 110cms. The other Koi have grown just as well. Having stunning individual examples of Koi in the pond such as a perfect Hi-Utsuri, Kigoi, Purachina…all over 75cms!
Derek also has some of the best Go-Sanke in the UK.
Derek is now planning the next change to the pond which will be the addition of 2 Nexus 300’s to run combined with sieves. This is to add more bacterial media to the system.
“The fish are in great condition. Not one of the Koi I bought from you has gone ‘downhill’ all got better and better. When the Nexus go on the pond I don’t think ill ever change it again”
Chris M - Cheshire
Gallons – 30,000
Bottom Drains: 4 bottom drains feeding 4 Nexus 300’s with Answers.
Filters: 4 x Nexus 300’s with Answers.
Pumps: Sequence 12000’s. Sequence 18000 for waterfall.
4 x Yamitsu 55w UV’s.
Airpumps: 2 x Hi Blow 200’s, 4 x Hi Blow 100’s.
Food used: Saki Hikari/Shingoi
This is a massive Koi pond. The pond has 24 large Koi in it ranging from 70cms to 1m.
One end of the pond is 5 feet deep sloping down to 10 feet at the other side.
The fish are fed around 4 times a day and are growing like crazy. Each Nexus holds 150L of K1 and works perfectly. Its still on the older system of the Answers by EvolutionAqua but if it isn’t broke then don’t fix it. The water is always crystal clear and the fish are spot on.
“The pond is 3 years old and now at the stage where I have to do nothing to it. I noticed one of my fish had a scratch on it one day and two days later it had vanished. I think its now fully mature and never causes me any problems. Weekly maintenance takes me 40minutes.”
Tony M
St Helens, Merseyside.
Gallons: 7800
Bottom Drains: 2 Diffuser drains into 2 Nexus 300’s
Filters: 2 x Nexus 300’s
1 x TMC 110uv.
Water Pumps used: 2 x Sequence 8000’s and 1 x Sequence 12000 to run 2 skimmers.
Airpump used: Airtech 130 running 2 Nexus 300’s and Airtech 130 running 2 diffuser drains.
Food used: Saki Hikari/Shingoi
This was quite a remarkable pond in the speed it was built.
Tony and his own team of men finished this pond start to finish in 21 days which is pretty amazing. UKNishikigoi supplied all the equipment and did the fibre glassing. The shape and the flow rate are creating fantastic growth.
Tony is sticking with one size of fish to get the best growth rates on his Koi. He has Koi from Matsunosuke, Shintaro and many other top breeders and the fish are already growing well. With a total of 30 1 year old Koi, they should thrive! See the pictures to see how well the Koi are doing. Huge for tosai.
“The Nexus 300’s are a dream to clean. The pond has been running for 6 weeks now and never had a reading. The fish are growing really well, just need the weather so I can stay out here every night and enjoy them”
